Serves: 8
Prep time: 10 minutes | Cook time: 40 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry
- 4 pink lady apples
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) Fireball Whisky
- 1 tbsp vanilla bean paste
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tbsp plain flour
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds, toasted
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp raw sugar
- 1 tbsp orange marmalade
Method
1. Pre-heat oven to 200°C (180°C conventional).
2. Cut puff pastry to fit MasterCraft Crusty Bake Baking Tray. Using a fork, score edges to create a one-centimetre border around the edges. Place in the fridge for 20 minutes.
3. Using a peeler and an apple corer, peel and core the apples. Cut in half and finely slice. Place into a large mixing bowl, add lemon juice, vanilla bean paste, Fireball Whisky and maple syrup. Toss lightly and set aside.
4. Place sliced almonds, cinnamon, plain flour and raw sugar into a small mixing bowl and stir to combine. Remove pastry from fridge and sprinkle almond mixture over the top and inside the fork border.
5. Layer the apples over the almond mixture and brush the border with egg. Place into the oven for twenty minutes then reduce heat to 180°C (160°C conventional) and cook for a further 20 minutes. Remove from the oven.
6. Add orange marmalade to leftover apple juices. Place in the microwave for ten seconds, stir to combine and liberally brush over cooked tart and cut into 8 slices. Serve immediately with vanilla ice cream using an ice-cream scoop.
7. For a decadent twist, add one third of a cup of chopped dark chocolate to the mixture.
8. For a zesty twist, grate the rind of half an orange over the tart.
9. For an alternative accompaniment, serve with Greek yogurt and fresh mint.
