This s’mores dip in a cast iron skillet looks and tastes fantastic. So easy to make, you’ll only need three ingredients and mere minutes from start to finish.
S’mores are a classic summer campfire staple - think toasty marshmallow crusts with a soft, melty filling, crisp graham crackers and chocolate. Even if you’ve never camped a day in your life, I’m pretty sure you know exactly what I’m talking about. The sticky and sometimes messy treat makes summer days feel extra magical with memories of fun in the summer heat.
Alas summer can't last forever, but fortunately this s’mores dip can be enjoyed all year long! This s’mores dip recipe using a Lodge skillet can be made and enjoyed indoors while you cosy up under the blanket with your loved ones. You can use any frypan for this recipe but we recommend using a cast iron skillet as it retains heat more efficiently. This means your s’mores dip will stay warm and melty for longer. We loved how our s’mores dip turned out on our Lodge cast iron skillet. The chocolate and marshmallows melted together beautifully and kept warm for a good while as we took our time to enjoy it during a movie night!
What We Love About This S'mores Dip
So Easy to Make - If you have a sweet tooth but can’t be bothered to labour away in the kitchen for a dessert, this dip is for you. It’s so easy! Simply throw together 3 ingredients in the skillet, place it in the oven, and in a few minutes, you’ll be retrieving a delectable s’mores dip from the oven. Perfect for parties, movie nights in, or to satisfy your sweet cravings.
Even Better Than Campfire S'mores - To make campfire s‘mores, you’ll have to first build a campfire which may mean a lot of sweat and maybe even tears. With a campfire s’more, getting the heat right for your marshmallows might prove to be tricky and you’ll end up with burnt marshmallows instead of a golden roasted crust on your dip. With this recipe, the controlled heat from the oven ensures a beautifully toasted marshmallow crust with a melty, chocolatey filling that will make you melt yourself.
Dip Anything You Like - While graham crackers are the traditional way to eat s’mores, you don’t have to follow the rules with this dip! Dip everything from biscuits to fruit, or spread it on toast. It’ll taste amazing either way!
What Exactly is a S’more?
A s’more is a sweet treat typically enjoyed on summer camping trips, made popular in North America. Consisting of toasted marshmallows and a chocolate square stacked in between two graham crackers, s’mores create a symphony of flavours and textures in your mouth. Imagine summer nights toasting marshmallows beside a campfire and exchanging fun campfire stories with loved ones; s’mores are the social glue that bring people together.
Why is it Named S’more?
S’mores appeared on cookbooks as early as the 1920s but they were initially called “graham cracker sandwiches". It was already loved by both boy and girl scouts even back then! In a scouts' cookbook "Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts”, the recipe was named “Some More” and eventually shortened to S’more, which is the name used today.
S'mores vs S'mores Dip
While a s'more is a great dessert by itself, you'll have to heat up each marshmallow individually and assemble it with the other ingredients to make a single serving. It takes a lot of time to make a larger batch and by the time you're done, the toasted marshmallows might have cooled down and flattened, ruining the experience.
On the other hand, a s'mores dip is effortless to make and portion. All you'll need to do is add your ingredients in the skillet and let the oven do all the work. To serve, place the s'mores dip in the centre of table surrounded by snacks of your choice and enjoy! This gorgeous dip looks impressive but is effortless to make, perfect for parties and special events.
