Griddles and Stovetop Grills
Lacking the space for a barbecue or not wanting to venture outside to cook? A Grill pan is a perfect substitute, allowing you to cook and get the same appetising char lines. Perfect for grilling steaks, sausages, searing fish or chicken, a grill pan also offers an element of healthy cooking where the ridged cooking surface allows for fats and oil to separate from the food while cooking. Shop our range of cast iron grill pans, nonstick grill pans and double-sided grills.
Choosing the right grilling pan or grill plate
For those wanting as close to a barbecue in terms of charred flavour, we recommend raw cast iron like Lodge pans that are made in the USA and perfect for cooking on any heat source including induction or even campfire. They come preseasoned and develop a nonstick patina with use making grilling your favourite meats extra easy. Raw cast iron grill pans are also extra hard-wearing and can be used on high heat to get the ideal sear.
Those who would prefer to not have to season their cast iron grill pans may prefer a Le Creuset grill pan which feature enamelled coatings to prevent rusting and remove the need for seasoning. These grill pans are made in France and come in an array of striking colours that look fantastic in any modern kitchen and are suitable for gas, induction as well as electric stovetops.
Are nonstick grill pans a good option to cook with?
Nonstick cookware provides the benefit of easy-release of foods, minimal cleaning and reduced dependence on oil which makes for healthier cooking. A nonstick grill pan adds convenience, lighter weight in comparison to cast iron pans and is a great option, especially for those who are unfamiliar with cast iron pans. When it comes to choosing the best nonstick options, we'd recommend a Scanpan grill pan that is made in Denmark or a Woll grill pan from Germany as these two brands produce the hardest wearing nonstick cookware in the market. They also have nonstick coatings that have a higher heat threshold than standard nonstick pans allowing you to be able to sear and grill with better results.
Should I buy a cast iron grill pan or a nonstick grill pan?
When it comes to grilling, there are two main types of grill pans that people tend to use: cast iron and nonstick. Each has its own set of benefits and drawbacks that you should take into account before making a purchase. The cast iron grill pans have the best-performing heat conductivity and retention and are all induction compatible but are also a lot heavier than nonstick pans meaning they will be more difficult to maneuver. Raw cast iron grill pans will need to be seasoned before use, which is an extra step that some people might not want to deal with, however a well-seasoned cast iron grill pan is considered a low-tox option and achieves incredible cooking results.
On the other hand, nonstick grill pans are typically much lighter and easier to work with. They don't require seasoning and usually have a smooth cooking surface that is easy to clean. However, they don't retain heat as well as cast iron pans nor should they be used on high heat, so you might have more difficulty achieving those perfect grill marks. Additionally, many people feel that food cooked in a nonstick pan doesn't have quite the same flavour as food cooked in a cast iron pan.So which type of grill pan is right for you? Ultimately, it depends on your personal preferences and what you'll be using the pan for most often. If you're looking for something that's easy to use and clean, a nonstick grill pan may be the better option, where as if you are wanting the perfect sear and as close to the flavour that a barbeque can produce then yo should consider a cast iron grill pan.
