Makers Since 1945
Robert Gordon is one of Australia's last remaining large scale potteries that have been manufacturing high fired stoneware for over 25 years. Robert 'Andy' Gordon started his pottery company from a a small eight by ten foot shed, taking after his mother, renowned Australian potter June Dyson.
in 1987, the family business evolved and expanded, purchasing a factory in Packenham Victoria which became their purpose built headquarters. The company prides itself on designing collections of beautiful, uniquely Australian tableware and homeware pieces that are loved in thousands of homes across Australia. The headquarters still stands today, where pieces of the Robert Gordon Collections are still hand made and painted on site by skilled craftspeople, some of whom have been at the company for over 25 years.
In 2015, Robert Gordon celebrated their 70th anniversary with a new discovery. Until recently, the family thought they had started crafting ceramic from 1945 at the end of the Second World War. The family uncovered an old contract hidden beneath a pile of black and white photographs that the pottery craft started even earlier, with Robert's grandmother, who collaborated with an English potter named Colley Shorter on a range of pottery, earning a comission on sales and extending the story that is still being told today.
With more than 60 years of heritage and three generations of potters, Robert Gordon is still family owned and run, with each family member playing a different role in the company with pride in its past and future with more homeware pieces that are fired with imagination.
